Teresa Teng as Part of World Icon Musicians?

Teresa Teng is one of the most influential singers of all time. I am not surprised by this at all. After all, her music for me will always remain an icon in the oriental market, some of her tunes are even used by American artists as well. Hmmm... it's been 15 years since her death and still, her music is well-remembered.

  1. One of Teresa's significant contributions to the entertainment industry was the concept of a Pan-Asian artist, who can easily traverse across the various cultures and gain acceptance and accolades. Of course, her language skills really helped her in this endeavor.

Unfortunately, most Asian artists continue to be pigeon-holed in their own sub-cultures and genre and there has not been another who can hold her mantle with the exceptions of perhaps Judy Oong and/or Takeshi Kaneshiro.

  2. I might have committed the cardinal sin in my comment above of not mentioning Jang Nara as the one who might have carried on Teresa's mantle.
In terms of commercial success, she might be even bigger than Teresa ever was; she even did a remake of the classic "Tian Mi Mi" and turned it into a mega hit.

However, I find Jang Nara's meteoric rise as "manufactured" and her efforts as way above the capability of her talents. Everything she did professionally seems to have been orchestrated and carefully planned out by her management. Just my humble opinions
