The Classic Jerry Yan vs. Vic Chou Fan Wars

I remembered during the days when F4 made too much of a sensation before the group had their inevitable split, before Vic Chou may have become the new "Qin Han" of Chinese entertainment.  These two were launched into stardom during their Meteor Garden days.

Well I guess there have been a lot of fan wars during Meteor Garden to who would get the girl.  In the series, Jerry Yan gets entangled in a love triangle with Vic Chou over Barbie Xu though in real life, neither got her nor did it happen.  During Meteor Garden II which ended up becoming overly dramatic for me, fan wars re-escalated again when fans fought over Jerry Yan and Vic Chou.  Of course, the whole series ended with Vic Chou walking out of the script!  In the middle of that, Vic Chou took the role of the Taiwanese adaptation of "Poor Boy Taro" as the main character while Jerry Yan starred alongside Karen Morris and Jacky Cheung in "Love Scar".  I guess nobody can forget how Meteor Garden turned these two into an overnight sensation!

Then after Meteor Garden II, the two got stuck in melodramatic shows.  Vic Chou after his failed Love Storm role, soon succeeded in Mars where he was reunited with Barbie Xu and had a short relationship with her though they broke up in a rather friendly manner (and is rumored to be dating Reen Yu though he might soon be rumored to date Esther Liu).  Jerry Yan had lesser roles due to him being sickly though he later did the Qiong Yao style drama Starlit with Terri Kwan.  Vic Chou later did his first action drama role in "Black and White" while he also had other roles like the Qiong Yao-style drama Madame Jin (paired alongside Fan Bingbing) and in the romantic drama "Wish to See You Again" with Michelle Chen.  Though Vic Chou was the last F4 member to get a movie did three in a row.  Jerry Yan had Magic Kitchen (with Sammi Cheng and HK legend Andy Lau) as a sidekick character and leading guy.  Vic Chou starred in Linger (with Li Bingbing), in Tea Fight (with Janine Chang who worked with both him and Yan) and in "Love You 10,000 Years" with Japanese hottie Youki Kato (who also appeared in two episodes of Kamen Rider Fourze).  Jerry Yan later appeared in a movie paired alongside Ivy Chen in "Ripples of Desire".

Well surprisingly, Vic Chou has improved overall as an actor.  You might want to compare his performance in Love Storm vs. Mars then you should try watching his post-Mars roles as well.  Best role for me was in "Black and White" and in "Last Night of Madame Chin".  For Jerry Yan, I wish he will explain why he's no been so active while Vic Chou who wanted to quit show business before, ended up staying longer than he expected.
