Why Sayaka Akimoto's Half-Filipino Heritage is NOT A Source of Pinoy Pride!

So I'd like to bring back the same topic of former AKB48 member Sayaka Akimoto who is well-known to be bi-racial- her father is Japanese, her mother is Filipino. Some Japanese actors and actresses are of dual heritage like Takeshi Kaneshiro is half-Chinese. She also had issues with her dual heritage which she is now proud of. But I'd also like to state why Sayaka Akimoto's half-Filipino heritage is never a source of Pinoy pride.

Now I thought about it these statements made by Sayaka Akimoto (source):

I kept thinking 'What am I?' for 7 and a half years while I was spending time together with all these other idols like Mayuyu and Yuko. But I am able to stay active and have work because of my shoulder width that's bigger than anyone else's in AKB, and my muscles. I cherished these traits as these define who I really am.

Now I am proud when I say that I'm half-Filipino, and I hope that I can give give a helping hand to everyone else who are half-bred and is in the same situation as I was, and people who have no confidence.

Notice the words that were highlighted which said, "I hope that I can give a helping hand to everyone else who are half-bred..." which she is proud of BOTH her Japanese and Filipino heritage. Sayaka Akimoto has gotten over her inferiority complex and proud of her DUAL heritage. I mean, sometimes dual heritage can be a very good thing. I mean, some great people are of dual heritage. For instance, Takeshi Kaneshiro's mastery of both Mandarin and Nihonggo gives him an advantage in both Japan and Hong Kong cinema. Ann Makosinski the genius teenager is half-Canadian, half-Filipino. However I refuse to commend any of their achievements based on heritage. Their achievements are theirs alone.

Japan had a history of racism itself in the past. Not all Japanese were willing to move away from the traits that their former country had, which was Imperial Japan. Not all Japanese were willing to move from being Imperial Japanese to Modern Japanese. In short, they refused to migrate to Modern Japan even after Imperial Japan was extinct. I've even read how Hong Kong actor Takeshi Kaneshiro mentioned that he was also mocked for his half-Chinese heritage in the past. Some Japanese actors were also half-Filipino, half-American, half-Chinese, etc. but today, they are now widely accepted in Modern Japan as the Japan that conquered much of Asia before during World War II is now dead.

However many Pinoys (based on MY OBSERVATION ANYWAY!) do have this highly unusual obsession of "racial purity" like the Chinese had in the past with their obsession of "Not one foreign blood must befall the holy blood of Pinoys". Being Chinese by blood, I experienced being mocked for my Chinese heritage, told to go back to China (as if I was even born there or I was an illegal alien) because I didn't adhere to the poor values of the Pinoys. I also had a half-Spanish friend who frequently got picked on because she was well.. only half-Filipino as if Imperial Spain had not died years ago. I remembered the statement of "The Philippines is only for those of pure Pinoy blood." for those arrogant peers which is BS through and through... while they hypocritically enjoy Jollibee because of its patriotic tagline that says, "At Home Sa Filipino, Ang Sarap Sa Jollibee" which in English means "At Home with the Filipino, It's so Delicious at Jollibee", never mind the owner is Chinese by blood.

Then steps in the hypocrisy anyway. Somebody who is at least half-Filipino makes it big, they say, "PINOYS ARE DA BEST!" which they may conveniently have double standard. The double standard here is that they say, "Not one drop of foreign blood must enter into our holy race of Pinoys." then say, "It was the Pinoy blood that made them great!" For one, remember that people are people. Stupid and smart people exist in every race. A smart Filipino is not smart because he or she is Filipino, she is smart because she is smart.

Also one must remember that her achievements are in the name of the Japanese people, not the Filipino people and she is NOT a "kabayan" (countryman) of the Pinoy pridists. She is the countrymen of Japanese, she is a Japanese citizen. A Filipino living abroad is a countryman of the country he or she is living in. For the Pinoy pridists, their only "kabayan" are those of Pinoy blood which is stupid. I mean, when Jollibee went to Hong Kong, the achievement of CEO Tony Tancaktiong is not done in the name of the Chinese people but done in the name of the FILIPINO people, even if he is Chinese by blood.

As said, achievements belong to the achievers alone. There's nothing wrong if the Filipino people applaud Filipino achievers but to use it as a source of Pinoy pride or riding on their achievements is just wrong. Sayaka Akimoto is no exception to the rule either.

  1. Takeshi Kaneshiro is half Taiwanese, not Chinese. He came from long line of Taiwanese heritage that has been isolated from China for 400 years.

  2. Hearing pinoy pride and pinoy is the best is so annoying. Theres nothing of being proud to your race but some are just exagerrating things. Filipinos are racist towards chinese, indians, and black races living here in philippines. They mock others but when you mock their pinoy race its too big deal for them. Im so ashame of how some filipinos are so rude and arrogant while in reality those rude kind cant even eat decent food themselves. I feel sorry for you. I admire chinese filipino because most of them are really smarter and more practical than typical pinoys. No wonder most of big business and companies here in philippines are own by chinese or filipino chinese. Very few are pure filipino.

  3. Growing up in a Pinoy hood in Seattle I also heard Pinoy Pride and Pinoy is the best Mabuhay! The problem is that Pinoy's are not a Pure Race! Looking at the Filipino history they are all mixed up. Negritos are the only original Filipinos. Then 1st settlers came fron Taiwan, then Malay & Indonesians migrated to the Phillippines along with Arabs, Chinese, Mongols, SE Asians, East Indians, Kymer, Pacific Islanders, etc. Then the Spanish came So why most Filipinos has some Spanish blood (looking at their Spanish last names and 40% Tagalog is Spanish words, 10% Hokkien) Also Taiwan is the closest foreign country with Filipino Mavulis Island only 88 miles southeast of the southern tip of Taiwan's main island and 61miles to the nearest Taiwanese island, the "Lesser Orchid Island"

  5. Yes, Hearing pinoy pride and pinoy is the best is annoying. Cuz believe it or not Filipinos afe not a pure race to begin with. All the pinoys I know are mixed with like 1/4 or like 1/8 Spanish, Chinese or even have a Japanese great-grandfather. Only pure Pinoy are the native Negritos aboriginal that were here in the PI, 1st for thousands of years before central asians, se asians, taiwanese, south indians, malay, indoneseans, arabs and chinese came here. Under Spanish rule there was immigration from elsewhere in the empire, especially from Latin America. So European DNA is present in many Filipinos today. So there are no 100% pure Pinoys today. But with the mixed Pinoy blood makes for the most beautiful people winning Miss World. There are also Japanese people, which include escaped Christians (Kirishitan) who fled the persecutions of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1600 which the Spanish empire in the Philippines had offered asylum from. That why some so-called pure Pinoys have Chinese/Japanese slant eyes or have lighter skin due to spanish descent. Also Tisoy from American descent 120 yrs ago. The Philippine constitution provides for the promotion of Spanish and Arabic on a voluntary and optional basis since and 11% Pinoys are muslim and most are of Arab descent.
So are Filipinos, Asian, Pacific Islander or Hispanic? Answer: all 3! Phillippines have been the longest Spanish Colony even longer than Mexico. why Tagalog is 40% spanish words and according to vid below tagalog also uses alot of mandarin / hokien words.
